Booker Tweeting His Way to Washington? VOTE STEVE LONEGAN
Jersey politician and Obama “big-government-can-solve-everything” clone Cory Booker has 1.4 million Twitter followers. Jersey jokes aside, surely there cannot be that many low-information voters in all of New Jersey…
A New Jersey Senate seat is Cory Booker’s to lose in Wednesday’s [tomorrow 10/16/2013!!] special election.
The campaign to replace Frank Lautenberg, who died in June, has shown the drawbacks to the celebrity style of politics.
Mr. Booker… has more than 1.4 million followers on Twitter.
Steve Lonegan, his Republican challenger, has relentlessly hit at the Democrat’s “record of failure” in Newark. Mr. Lonegan also pokes fun at Mr. Booker’s fundraising trips to Hollywood (at events hosted by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck) and Silicon Valley ( Mark Zuckerberg), calling him an “absentee mayor.” A memorable Lonegan one-liner: “New Jersey needs a leader, not a tweeter.”
In [Monmouth University’s] latest poll, on Monday, Mr. Booker’s lead narrowed to 10 percentage points, from 16 in August. His negatives have doubled since June to 30%. In the Monmouth survey, 48% said Mr. Booker wanted the job to “be on the national stage,” and only 37% said to serve New Jersey. One hopes knowledgeable Lonegan supporters will outnumber low-information Booker Tweeps in tomorrow’s special election. New Jersey, and the United States, needs Steve Lonegan in Washington. Leave Booker in Jersey where he belongs. – Grizzly Joe
