If It Barks Like a Dog… The Truth of Islam

avatarThe myth that Islam does not condone savagery perpetuates more savagery.

Douglas Murray has an excellent piece in this month’s National Review on the futility of Western leaders perpetuating the myth of Islam as a religion of peace.

During a decade in which our leaders have told us that Islam is one thing, many people have been able to read up for themselves, have watched videos of jihadist atrocities, and know that the extremists claim, by way of justification for their acts, that Islam is quite another thing.

Rather than being a “perversion” of Islam, it is truer to say that the version of Islam espoused by ISIS… is nevertheless a plausible interpretation of Islam.  The extremists do not get to where they do from nowhere.  The near-total unwillingness to admit this says far more about us than it does about our enemies.

***

But pretending that there are no problems in Islam that Muslims themselves must face up to has unfortunate consequences.

***

Even while our leaders say that various beheadings, gang rapes, and the like have “nothing to do with Islam”… our newspapers are filled with stories- from abroad and in Western countries- that belie such assertions.

My own suspicion, having studied this issue most of my adult life, is that at some point in the coming years some outrage or other will make it impossible for politicians to continue this line.  Excerpted from “The Truth about Islam” By Douglas Murray National Review 10/6/14

Our politicians need only view the jihadist atrocities already perpetrated to justify speaking the truth about Islam.  Perpetuating the politically correct myth that Islam does not condone savagery will only lead to more death and suffering. – Grizzly Joe
