Khorasan Jihad Group- The Next Wave?
The past few days have seen increasing mentions of the Khorasan jihadist group in the mainstream media. James Clapper, Director of National Intelligence, has said that “in terms of threat to the homeland, Khorasan may pose as much of a danger as the Islamic State.” U.S. Suspects More Direct Threats Beyond ISIS By MARK MAZZETTI, MICHAEL S. SCHMIDT and BEN HUBBARD New York Times 9/20/14
So, who is Khorasan? The International Business Times has an excellent primer on Khorasan published just this morning- What Is Khorasan? Syrian Jihadist Group As Dangerous As ISIS By Alessandria Masi IBT 9/23/14
Led by Muhsin al-Fadhli, who was thought to have a very close relationship with Osama bin Laden, Khorasan is one of al Qaeda’s affiliates in Syria and possibly one of the most secretive groups operating under the cover of Syria’s civil war. The U.S. State Department’s Rewards for Justice program, which has a seven million dollar reward for information on al-Fadhli’s whereabouts, reports that “Al-Fadhli fought alongside the Taliban and al-Qaida in Afghanistan and is reported to have been among the few trusted al-Qaida operatives who received advance notification that terrorists would strike the United States on September 11, 2001.” The Al-Fahdi bounty was posted to the “Rewards” program on October 18, 2012.
It is not hyperbole to say that we must be informed about Khorasan “suddenly” emerging from the shadows (translation: getting mentions in the mainstream media). Remember my friends, knowledge is power. We must destroy the jihadist enemy. – “Grizzly Joe”
