Mastermind of Mumbai Jihadi Slaughter Gets Bail
From the “you gotta be kidding me” file:
A Pakistani court granted bail to the alleged mastermind of the devastating 2008 attack on the Indian city of Mumbai, even as a massacre at a Pakistani school this week pushed Islamabad to declare that it would root out all militants.
Following Tuesday’s attack, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif pledged that the country would abandon a decades long policy of supporting some jihadist groups, saying, “There will be no distinction between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ Taliban. All would be dealt equally with an iron hand.” He also lifted Pakistan’s seven-year-old moratorium on the death penalty, in cases of terrorism.
Hasan Askari Rizvi, a security analyst, said unlike the Pakistani Taliban, Lashkar-e-Taiba isn’t being targeted by the current antiterrorism offensive because the group isn’t involved in violence within Pakistan.
Lashkar-e-Taiba is focused on India and especially the region of Kashmir, a Muslim-majority area that is disputed between India and Pakistan.
Mr. Lakhvi is accused of being the organizer of an attack in which 10 gunmen traveled by sea from Pakistan to Mumbai in November 2008, where they unleashed a four-day killing rampage in the city center. Pakistan has decided which domestic Jihadi groups to target. The Jihadist group that only causes trouble in other countries gets a free pass. Thusly, the Pakistani Jihadist who planned the attack that killed 165 people in India gets bail. Amazing. –Grizzly Joe
